St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt + Free Printable!

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! I love making each holiday fun and memorable for my kids, but St. Patrick’s Day was a tough one to figure out how to get the kids involved. I wanted to make it more interactive for them, as well as a learning experience.

Who doesn’t wonder what’s at the end of a rainbow? Those silly leprechauns are sneaky. They don’t want you to get their pot of gold! So how about a scavenger hunt for that treasure?

What You Will Need

While my kids were sleeping, I took green streamers and went a bit crazy throughout the house. A little leprechaun was meant to look as if he wreaked havoc all over! I took the gold chocolate candies and scattered throughout the rooms where the hunt would take place. Amongst the chaos there were clues that would guide the kids to the leprechauns hidden treasure (find the free printable here!). You could also come up with your own clues if you prefer.

The first year we did this our clues were geared toward our daughter learning how to read. We encouraged her to really try and read the clues on her own. They ran from room to room as they figured out the clues. Their treasure was fun St. Patrick’s Day socks and knick-knacks from the local dollar store. We plan to continue this tradition, but alter it as the kids get older. I love that they can learn from holidays like these as well as have so much fun.

More Fun with the Supplies!

After the kids finish the St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt, you can make a fun obstacle course with streamers you have set up. Tell the kids that they have to go through the streamers but they cannot touch them! You can mix it up by scattering some of those gold candies throughout the course and have them gather those as they make their way through.

Another fun way to make use of the gold candies is to put stickers on the bottom of them and give your child a card with a matching sticker that they have to match up with the sticker on the candies. Once they find their match they get to collect it.

Make this unique to your family or do this as a fun play date with neighbors or friends. Have fun and a jolly, good green time!
