What do you wear for a pandemic? For me, it has been lounge wear.
I have a variety of t-shirts, sweatshirts, leggings, and cozy pants that are in heavy rotation. Jeans? We’ll see if they fit in a few months.
I have found that uncomfortable times call for comfortable clothes. Here’s what has been my unofficial uniform for this pandemic.
Leggings and Joggers
Leggings are the backbone of any good stay-at-home outfit and provide for maximum range-of-motion. Great for household chores, workouts, impromptu dance parties, playing LEGOs, and more. Some of my favorites that generally stand the test of time are Lululemon. I also like pairs from Athleta, GapFit, and Target, All in Motion and this affordable Amazon pair under $20.
Joggers are trending right now and are also very comfortable. They are like sweatpants but a bit more fitted. Some of my favorites are are Nike, GapFit, and Under Armour. Also notable are these beauties from J.Crew that blur the line between pajamas and sweatpants.
Great t-shirts are also a staple. I have a ton of plain t-shirts that are mainly neutral colors. A great basic tee can be very versatile in that it will match up with almost any pants. I love shirts that are cotton and not too short (c’mon, I’m in my mid-thirties!). Some of my favorites can be found at Target, Gap, Old Navy, and J.Crew.
I also like to wear sentimental t-shirts. Many of my t-shirts are from travels, concerts, and the occasional funny/ironic t-shirt that remind me of lighter times.
I love a good cozy hoodie for around the house. I have also recently purchased some basic crew neck sweatshirts with a bit of a nineties look to them. They pair well with the basic tees and comfy pants. Here are some comfortable options from Athleta, Lou & Grey, and J. Crew.
I like my cardigans super soft and the closer to a blanket, the better. Cardigans are perfect for layering and feel a bit more pulled together than a robe, but are just as easy to throw on. I like these options from Eddie Bauer, Target, and Barefoot Dreams.
Great for a lazy morning or you know, the whole day. I like to use a heavy fleece robe in the winter and then transition to a lighter cotton robe as the weather warms up.
A good option for Spring would be a light floral robe like this one from Target. It could add a little color and elegance around the house. For classic comfort, try this well-reviewed robe from Amazon.
For variable Spring weather, it is good to have options. I like to have a fleece coat, raincoat, and a coat that is slightly insulated for the Midwestern days that still feel like winter. I would recommend the Patagonia Better Sweater Fleece Jacket, Madewell Packable Raincoat, and this Lightweight Down Jacket from Amazon.
For when your kids want to go puddle-stomping, rain boots. Hunter Boots are a classic and tall enough to withstand even the deep puddles. I have this Sperry pair and also this affordable pair from Target.
Sporty or have not showered? They’ll never know. Paired with a face mask, you could have the perfect disguise. I like to use my baseball caps to show my sports affiliations; Vikings, UND, and Minnesota Twins. I also have one hat for running and a straw hat for just being outside or lake days. I like the idea of a fedora, but haven’t quite figured out how to pull one off.
For the Future
I believe there are good days ahead. Days involving get togethers with family and friends, dates with my husband outside our home, weddings, and lake days. And so although I have found comfort in my day-to-day wardrobe, I am also looking forward to dusting off my dresses, sweaters, and jeans.
I just hope they’ll still fit!
