Open Call for Fargo Mom Contributors!

Interested in becoming a writer for Fargo Mom?

We are now taking applications for regular contributors!

Deadline to apply: Friday, February 26th

What Does Becoming a Contributor Entail?

This is a volunteer position, but there are some really fun perks to it. Note: you do NOT have to be a blogger or writer to apply! We are simply looking for local moms who love to write, have a passion for motherhood and their community, and are looking for a way to connect. Whether you’ve been writing for years or just have a desire to share and connect with other moms, no experience is required! All you need is a passion for being a Mom and a love for Fargo-Moorhead!

Who Can Apply?

We welcome any and all moms from all walks of life! We want Fargo Mom to be a place all moms feel welcome, so we encourage any mom to apply. Your experience matters, and will resonate with other moms who are going through the same trials, joys, and milestones you are. You do NOT need to be a current writer to apply – we care more about your passion and your perspective, and your willingness to share and connect with other moms in our community. Our team is stronger with a diverse range of thoughts, perspectives, and experiences and we hope you will share them with us and our community.

What Topics Are We Looking For?

Think LOCAL: We love to keep all of our content relevant to the Fargo-Moorhead area…or at least within driving distance for day trips and outings. Blog posts can feature places to go and things to do while more general topics {mental health, motherhood experiences, mom tips and tricks, potty training, DIY…} can be given a local twist simply because they are written by a local mom – YOU!

Think MOMS: It may sound obvious, but Fargo Mom’s target audience is made up of moms, so it only makes sense that our content remains under the broad category of parenting, such as the experience of being a mom, stages and phases of development, tips and tricks, home management strategies specific to moms, and of course, all the locally-focused ideas mentioned earlier. At the end of the day though, we are all moms just trying to make our lives a little bit more enjoyable and know we aren’t alone in our experiences. If you have an idea that interests you and your friends, then our readers would probably love to read about it, too!

Think CONNECTIONS: We encourage you to think critically about ways to engage your audience. Try to include clever and catchy post titles that draw people in or spark curiosity, and give your readers a reason to comment by asking questions.

Most Importantly: Write what you love, and love what you write!

Kathy Schommer is the Owner and Founder of Fargo Mom. She is a (nearly) lifelong North Dakotan, married to her college sweetheart, and has 3 rambunctious girls. Kathy is passionate about connecting moms, advocating for maternal mental health, and giving back to this wonderful community any way she can. She loves all things crafting, attempting to read books not related to parenting, and drinking hot coffee every chance she gets. When Kathy’s not attempting to work with her kids yelling in the background, you might find her at one of the local breweries or coffee bars in the area or attempting to find unique treasures at a local thrift store.
