Less is More: My Simple Skin Care Routine

*Disclaimer: I am not an esthetician and have never went to beauty school. I am just a regular mom trying to figure out what works for my skin through trial and error.*

I have never had great skin. From hormones as a teenager to pregnancy hormones to postpartum hormones, I feel my skin has been through enough. I use to have very oily skin as a teenager, and now after three kids my skin is on the dry side. Despite trying product after product hoping for that “one miracle product to cure it all,” I have yet to find it. I like to keep my skin care simple, and want to get results from just a few products.

Once the pandemic came and I didn’t leave the house, I hardly ever put on any make-up. I mean, what was the point? After the first four weeks of not really wearing any make-up, I looked at my skin and knew my skin care routine needed a boost. During this extra time at home, I have tried different products and I finally feel like my skin is coming around.

My Favorite Products

CeraVe Facial Cleanser: I use the dry version of this facial cleanser. I use one pump in the morning to clean my face and then one pump again at night. I also will use this to take off my make-up at night, then I use two pumps. They have three different types: oily-to-normal, normal, and normal-to-dry.

No 7 Renewal Micro-dermabrasion Exfoliator: This is my new favorite I’ve added to my skincare routine! I use it 1-2 times a week, and have found it to be not as harsh as other exfoliators. The No 7 brand is found at Target, so it is super convenient to find. I also saw they have an under eye cream that I want to try, but haven’t yet!

Theraderm NuPeel Natural Enzyme Peel: This product is a probably the most amazing one I have listed so far. It is a clear ointment-like product that you put on in a very thin layer. You then wait thirty seconds and make tiny circular motions with your fingertips and it will take off ALL of the dead skin. It is amazing, especially for someone with dry skin like me. I use this product 2-3 times a week with my skin care routine. It is a tad more expensive then other products on here, but you don’t need much with each application.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: Moisturizing is very important, especially for my dry skin. The CeraVe brand has really good skincare products that I have had a lot of luck with. This moisturizing cream is thick, so I like to apply it before I go to bed at night. This way it has all night to soak in.

Jade roller: I have not bought this beauty tool yet, but I’ve heard great things. It is meant to help with reducing facial puffiness and increase circulation. I have no idea if it really works or not, but I have read many reviews on this and I think I may be adding it to my skin care routine soon.

Extra Splurge

I am also a big fan of face masks, and really like the hydro jelly face masks. They have different ones based on what you are trying to achieve, but I love how smooth my skin feels afterwards. This is an extra splurge and I find myself using them on nights when I have had “one of those days,” as it gives me a chance to relax.

Goal of Skin Care Routine

Since I’ve taken more time to focus on my skin care, I have noticed I don’t need as much make-up. My confidence is growing with being “make-up free” and I am loving it! The process of skin care isn’t an overnight miracle, but I can say with confidence that even with the past few months of working on my skin I have seen great improvement. The goal for me is that if I take care of my skin now, hopefully it will be a benefit years from now.
