Fargo Moms to Know: Meet Justine Evanson!

Welcome to our series called Fargo Moms to Know! We will feature moms right here in our local community to highlight the wonderful things they are doing as mothers, business owners, community members, and friends. If you’d like to nominate someone to be featured in our Fargo Moms to Know series, contact us through the form below!

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

My daughter, Amelia, will be 2 at the end of December and we’ll be welcoming another baby girl January 2021!

How long have you lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area?

Basically my whole life! My mom and I moved to Fargo from Wahpeton before I was four years old, so I consider myself a Fargo native.

What do you do for a living?

I have worked at Bell Bank for five years and am currently on the Banker Support Team.

What do you do to reset and recharge, especially with the craziness of life right now?

I really enjoy photography, so when taking my daughter on walks I am always sure to bring my camera. Going through the photos later, editing, and getting the photos printed is always a very satisfying experience.

What do you like about raising a family here?

Even as it grows, Fargo keeps its caring, family-friendly atmosphere. From special and holiday events, to just exploring parks and bike/walking paths, you can always find something to do as a family.

What is challenging about raising a family here?

Since Fargo is such an appealing place for families, many schools, daycares and events occasionally get overcrowded.

What is your favorite local thing to do/place to go?

My husband is a fairly avid cyclist and recently we’ve really enjoyed taking family bike rides through Lindenwood and Island Park. It allows us to get some exercise, outdoor time, and our daughter loves stopping at all of the playgrounds along the way!

Is there a hidden gem in Fargo-Moorhead you love?

Mehl’s Gluten Free Bakery in Fargo. My daughter had colic and reflux when she was a newborn and I was willing to try anything to help her feel better, including going dairy-free since I was nursing. I have a pretty serious sweet tooth, so I had to find some treats I could still indulge in. I found some great dairy-free cupcakes at Mehl’s!

How can Fargo better serve you as a mom?

By wearing masks. 🙂

What is one piece of advice you would give to mothers right now?

For the new moms out there (especially those who have babies dealing with colic or other health issues) just know, it gets better! There’s nothing that can fully prepare you for motherhood, and it’s not easy.

Don’t feel bad or discouraged asking for help. Also, go to doctors, family and friends for advice and support, not the internet. It will oftentimes just make you feel like you’re doing something wrong when you are actually doing great, and doing what’s right for you and your family.

Thank you, Justine, for sharing with us about your life and allowing us to feature you in our Fargo Moms to Know series!
